Typographic Abstractions

About
Fluid Thoughts is a thesis exploring the function and nature of memory. Memories are fluid. They overlap, disappear, break apart, and combine together. This typographic abstraction is part of this thesis.

goals/objectives
To explore the form and function of memory in the brain through two-dimensional work. Use typography as a primary source of imagery.
Photography
Before anything could happen, I took photographs at a store called Deja Vu Furniture in Londonderry, NH on a recommendation. The store is filled wall to wall with unique stuff. Here, I focused on typographic elements around the store.
simplification
While working on this, I was thinking about how these images relate to the function of memory. Sensory details, time, and place are all important to the formation of memories. In this case, specific details like the type and color would be more prominent.
Overlapping
These images were all related because of their mechanical, industrial nature. So, it made sense for these images to come together as one. Other pieces followed a similar process using different source materials.
